LS passes two major sports bills amidst intensive uproar, adjourned till 4 pm

Bill has proposed to establish a National Sports Board to regulate and recognize the National Sports Federation (NSFS), including autonomous bodies such as BCCI. It follows the Olympic charter, paralympic charter and international best practices.

A National Sports Tribunal has been conceived to postpone athlete selection, federation elections and disputes related to issues of governance, while a national sports election panel will oversee fair elections within sports bodies.

Amendment to the National Doping Anti-Doping Act, 2022, which was also passed through voice votes, attempts to strengthen the freedom of the National Doping Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), addressing the concerns raised by the National Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Changes are designed to bring India’s anti-doping anti-doping governance to the WADA code and ensure credibility in international sports forums.

However, the legislative process was away from smooth.
