Sri Lanka on Thursday confirmed its 16-Khiladi squad for the T20 Asia Cup 2025, which was scheduled to begin on 9 September in the United Arab Emirates. The side will be headed with left -handed batsman Charith Asanka, with a depth in the batting unit with experienced names such as Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera and Dasun Shanaka. The ISL 2025-26 season is scheduled to begin in December 2025, according to a resolution submitted by All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Indian Super League Commercial Partner, Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) on August 28 in the Supreme Court.

The entire issue came on one head when FSDL caught the 2025-26 ISL season on 11 July, as his Master Rights Agreement (MRA) ended in December ’25 and had no clarity in the way forward. The parties along with the Supreme Court were asked not to enter the contract expansion discussion about the AIFF Constitution, not to enter the discussion.

Last week, however, on 22 August, the court directed the AIFF and FSDL to discuss and submit a proposal for the way before the hearing on 28 August. Both institutions held their meeting in Bangalore on 25 August and came forward with a proposal that includes two major areas:

1. To be held for commercial partners to conduct ISL; League begins in December

An open, competitive and transparent process managed by an independent professional firm concluded until 15 October 2025. After this (with AFC consent), the league will be Started by December 2025.

This point indicates that if the Reliance-supported FSDL does not present a bid or gets out-bid in the tender process, a new player may be involved. This will only become clear after the process starts. FSDL has run ISL for ten years and has now supervised the development of the league for a two-month half-demonstration tournament for the first division of the Indian football pyramid.

2. The season starts with super cup

After a sufficient pre-season, it was decided to start directly under the control of AIFF with a super cup or any other domestic competition. It is to ensure that the players are competitively engaged before the league starts.

The Durand Cup took place during the last month, but the army’s determined tournament did not see the ISL teams playing in it. The conduct of the Super Cup, preparing the teams for the final start of ISL, gives a clear marker to look forward to competitive action.
