How difficult is it to trust Kashmiris?

Published

on

What lesson did the government learn from Pahalgam terrorist attack and four -day struggle with Pakistan? Given the sensitivity of Jammu and Kashmir and its importance in the geopolitics of the subcontinent, it was assumed that the government would pick up the correct lesson and improve the necessary course.

Instead, it did everything that could be disappointed – from targeting ordinary Kashmiris to failing to vacate the residents of the border areas before confrontation.

The spontaneous performance of solidarity by the people in the valley was an opportunity to restore the state towards the state and win their confidence back. One opportunity was lost – as the government blamed with its blinking vision.

Pahgam, most of the Kashmir, agreed that the government-led government, who was democratically elected, needed to be taken on the board for all security-related matters. On 29 May, when Union Home Minister Amit Shah, along with officials of Home Ministry, security forces and intelligence agencies, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, chaired a high-level security meeting with Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, he was released. The intention cannot be clear: to maintain special control over law and order in J&K. Is such a decision intelligent?

This year was the third time that the Central Government had bypassed the Chief Minister first in February, then in April. Repeatedly, the sidelines criticized several national conference MLAs, who accused Amit Shah and LG of systematically reduced the Chief Minister’s office. After the Pahalgam terror attack, the Abdullah-led government renewed its phone to restore the state of Jammu and Kashmir-a step that would return the elected Chief Minister to control the integrated command, the region’s top security body.

As the leader of the National Conference Nasir Aslam Wani said, the Chief Minister is “not an outsider and should be part of all decision making”. The central government, armed forces, intelligence agencies and LG should not be the only player in Kashmir’s security system.

Why is Chief Minister Omar Abdullah excluded by all security related counseling?

Wani said, “The people of the state are the main stakeholders; if they are given the responsibility for their matters, then there is a wonder whether there will be a torture in Pahgam.”

These are the people who raise the brunt of safety measures – or its absence – and it is a journey that no one says in cases who directly worry them.

Building the trust between the people of the Center and Kashmir is important, but the current stance of the Center – depriving the elected government of its correct powers and repeatedly failed to follow through promises – only reproduces mistrust, Vani said.

Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami, CPI (M) MLA, selected from Kulgam for the fifth time, is more pronounced. It is indicating that under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019, the law and order is the domain of LG and directly maintained by the MHA, says Tarigami, “Kashmir is a unique state. It is surrounded by Pakistan and China on three sides. Terrorism.”

He said, “The National Conference has paid a heavy price and lost thousands of cadres for terrorists.

Dr. Ajay Sahni, Director of the Institute of Conflict Management and Anti -Terrorism, an expert with this notion. “This government does not believe in assigning responsibility to the state governments,” he says. “It is clear that they do not trust the local population because they are Muslims. There is a basic enmity towards them.”

Omar Abdullah confessed how difficult the situation is for him, the division of all power, to follow the test between public expectations and conflicting demands of the Ministry of Home Affairs and LG.

Pointing to the plurality of the power centers in J&K, he said, “We (in J&K) are a strange arrangement. Tourists are my responsibility (as the Minister of Tourism), but the safety of tourists is not my responsibility.

A senior police officer said, on the condition of anonymity. “Senior police officers are being replaced by outsiders, not familiar with the psyche of the local area or public. No wonder Pahgam had a major security lapse. Thus a detailed investigation requires how it was allowed to happen.

“Worse, the bodies of gun-down tourists lay down in the Baisran meadow for three hours, many people were being taken physically to Pahgam. They should have been taken to the hospital by helicopters. When the Home Minister visited the Meado the next day, 700 paratroopers and other security personnel were brought.

The public is becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the Omar Abdullah government. The local area of the Mlas has not been released yet despite the budget passing in the Fund March. This has publicly rested as these elected representatives are not in a position to approve the smallest development project.

To make cases worse, BJP leaders of Jammu have been tasked to assess the situation in the valley.

“Why should BJP leaders be asked to make an assessment? This has made us very suspicious,” said a shopkeeper who sells electrical goods in Srinagar.

In the four -day struggle, J&K had maximum casualties. Thirteen citizens died and 59 were injured by Pakistan from across the huge border. Five of the dead were children. The artillery shells landed in civilian areas and destroyed homes, schools and other structures.

Omar Abdullah chaired an emergency meeting with deputy commissioners of all border districts through video conferencing, ordered immediate release of Rs 5 crore in each border district and every Rs 2 crore in other districts. He also insisted that shelters and bunkers will be provided for the people living in these weak border areas.

J&K is currently a major struggle area. How ironic is a high-level meeting on 8 May, it was chaired by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The top brass of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Police discussed how to increase coordination and preparations between state machinery and defense forces.

Taragami says that this should have been in Srinagar. “This is why we are struggling for the state. Despite the government assurance in Parliament, it is unlikely that the Center will give us the state consumption in the future immediately.”

Opposition Congress workers on Monday waved black flags in the convoy of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa in the convoy of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, as they were opposing the alleged sales of 90 Gir cows, which were purchased by the government, including individuals, including the minister’s wife. Police said four people were detained in connection with the incident.

The Congress party started protests by the state government at all district headquarters against the alleged sales of cows purchased during the 2022-23 financial year for its Garukuti Agricultural Project.

Apart from protest, the Congress also filed complaints at various police stations, demanding action against the alleged “abuse, deception and corruption” of public property in connection with the purchase of cows for the project.

The Chief Minister, who was on a day visit to Golaghat, later told reporters: “Congress will have to protest. How will they live otherwise? I really appreciate that they came out to protest in this summer. He too will have to answer his leaders, “he said.

Referring to the sales of cows, Sarma said that it is surprising that a party supporting ‘Qurbani’ during Eid is now protesting against cows that were rescued and given shelter. “This is the ‘religion’ of the BJP to protect cows and some of them have done. The Congress has no moral right to oppose it, “he said.
