Kamal Haasan Files Nomination Paper

DMK Salem-based leader SR SIVALINGAM, Senior Advocate P. Wilson, who is an assignment DMK member in the upper house, and re-enrolled by the party and ruqayya Malik aka Kavignar Salma, a poet-writer and party office-business handed over his nomination papers to the submitiam.

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee Chairman K Selvaparunntagai, VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan, CPI (M) State Secretary P. Shanmugam, Manithanya Makkal Kachi (MMK) leaders MH Jawahirullah and DMK leaders Tre Balu, Konimozhi and Eve Velu were present.

MNM, a DMK associate, was allotted a Rajya Sabha seat as per the access between the two parties ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Haasan campaigned for the DMK alliance in the previous year’s parliamentary elections.

Congress, VCK, leftist parties and MMK are among the ruling DMK colleagues.

Six Rajya Sabha members of Tamil Nadu, including DMK Ally MDMK top leader Vaiko and PMK’s Anbumani Ramdos, are set to retire on 24 July 2025 and the Election Commission announced an election from Tamil Nadu in the upper house last month.

All 6 candidates who file nominations for 6 vacancies have been designed to declare unopposed and a competition is unlikely.

Major Rajya Sabha election dates are on 2 June 2025 (issue of notification), 9 June (last date for nomination), 10 June (nomination check, 12 June (last date for return of candidates) and 19 June (counting date and number of votes).

The Congress leader claimed that PM Modi is also running away from the disclosure by the defense officials that India “due to” PM’s decisions “in the first two days of Operation Sindoor.

His comment was a clear reference to the comments reported by India’s defense attachment to Indonesia. However, the Indian Embassy in Indonesia stated in a post on X on Sunday that defense attachment’s comments were “quoted out of reference and media reports are the intentions and loud buzz of presentation by the speaker”.

Ramesh also claimed that PM was running away from the claims released by President Trump that he impressed a ceasefire between India and Pakistan using a business deal as a carrot and stick.

He further alleged that the PM is running away from “Pahgam’s failure to provide justice to terrorists” even after 70 days.

Ramesh said, “Failure is all more frightening that they can first attend terrorist attacks in Poonach (December 2023) and Gagangir and Gularag (October 2024).”

Apart from Brazil, Modi will visit Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil and Namibia during an eight-day visit, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

In the first phase of the yatra, Modi will travel to Ghana from 2 to 3 July.

From Ghana, Modi will travel to Trinidad and Tobago on a two -day visit from July 3 to 4.

In the third phase of his visit, Modi will visit Argentina from 4 to 5 July.

In the fourth phase of his visit, Modi will travel to Brazil at the invitation of President Luiz Eneasio Lula Da Silva.

The Prime Minister will visit Brazil from 5 to 8 July to attend the 17th BRICS summit after a state visit.

In the last phase of his visit, Modi will visit Namibia.

Congress workers sell cows, wave black flags on CM

Opposition Congress workers on Monday waved black flags in the convoy of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa in the convoy of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, as they were opposing the alleged sales of 90 Gir cows, which were purchased by the government, including individuals, including the minister’s wife. Police said four people were detained in connection with the incident.

The Congress party started protests by the state government at all district headquarters against the alleged sales of cows purchased during the 2022-23 financial year for its Garukuti Agricultural Project.

Public Health Engineering Department Minister Jayant Malla Barua recently claimed that 90 of these cows were sold to private individuals as they were “insufficient infrastructure” at home. Subsequently, a list was released which showed that the minister’s wife allegedly bought 20 of these cows.

Apart from protest, the Congress also filed complaints at various police stations, demanding action against the alleged “abuse, deception and corruption” of public property in connection with the purchase of cows for the project.

The Chief Minister, who was on a day visit to Golaghat, later told reporters: “Congress will have to protest. How will they live otherwise? I really appreciate that they came out to protest in this summer. He too will have to answer his leaders, “he said.

Referring to the sales of cows, Sarma said that it is surprising that a party supporting ‘Qurbani’ during Eid is now protesting against cows that were rescued and given shelter. “This is the ‘religion’ of the BJP to protect cows and some of them have done. The Congress has no moral right to oppose it, “he said.

BJP’s development model aims to snatch rights from poor children to education: Rahul

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday alleged that the BJP’s development model is the one whose aim is to snatch the right to education from the poor, especially SC, ST and OBC children.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha shared screenshots of some media reports on Facebook.

In a post in Hindi on X, Gandhi alleged that “BJP’s development model is a model to take away the right to education from poor, especially SC, ST and OBC children”.

He said, “More than 5,000 government schools are being closed in Uttar Pradesh. Since 2014, 84,441 government schools have been closed across the country, most of which have been closed in BJP-ruled states-Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Assam.”
