Prior to the Asia Cup, you burn UP T20 with your batting. Do you see that as the right preparation for the big tournament?

Batting is really going well. This is helping both the team and my confidence. I am likely to bat in situations where I can take the team to win. The situation in which I am batting is the one I really like, so I feel good to play there. I am glad that I have got a flow of rhythm and Asia Cup. The ball is coming well on the bat, and I am really enjoying it.

We have seen some changes in your batting. Can you tell us more about them?

I am training in Mumbai and is practicing at KKR Academy under Abhishek Nair Sir. They have helped me a lot and now asked me to take my game to another level. T20 is a demand for cricket. Once you play IPL for a long time, bowlers start understanding your batting. So you need to add new elements to your game. You need to score runs on the board as the opposition also comes with a heavy scoring mentality. I keep learning new things, such as what shots I can add in my batting. After so many years in the IPL, the bowlers know what a batsman has weaknesses, so I exclusively practice to improve those areas. The practice has really been good. Yes, I have added some more shots to my game. I have done a lot of work on sweep and reverse sweep. I have worked hard during this period, and I feel mentally and physically fit.

Gautam Gambhir has had a huge impact on your career – first KKR And now as the head coach of India. How special is it to play again under it?

GG Sir (Gautam Gambhir) has always supported me and has given me a lot of support. When I first met him in KKR, he gave me so much confidence. I had a brief session with him where he talked to me about the bridge shots. He always supports his players, and it looks really good. He will come, talk to you, and inject confidence. He is a person with a lot of knowledge. I have enjoyed working with him – whether he is batting, talking, or training. It is always fun to share things with him. I am really keen to play under their coaching again. GG sir is a special feeling to share the dressing room with legend.

Did you get a chance to talk with him after your Asia Cup selection?

not yet. Once I go to Dubai, I will have a big conversation with him (laughing). So far, we have not talked about anything. I am very excited to meet and learn from him. His support in my career has been immense.

Gambhir often gives importance to players with all-round skills. Can we expect you to contribute with the ball?

Nowadays, every player is expected to contribute with both bat and ball. What else can you offer to the team separate from your main skills. If you are a batsman and the captain gives you the ball and you manage to take some wickets, then there is nothing better than this. It also helps you and the team. If necessary, I can bowl and also take wickets. Even selectors see if a player can contribute to both departments, so it definitely adds value. There is no harm in it – this is always for the team’s good. As a batsman, if the captain hands me the ball in a particular position and I take a wicket, it is a big plus for the team.

Is the number 7 your favorite batting position, or do you see yourself even prosperous elsewhere?

My approach is the same, even if I do not have any situation to bat. It will not change even in the Asia Cup. By the grace of God, I am scoring runs, and I want to take the same confidence in the tournament. If I get a chance to feature in eleven, I am ready to bat anywhere – whether it is at 6 or 7, or even more in the middle overs. It is not that I can only bat the order; I can play wherever I need India. I always analyze the situation and bat accordingly, and I really enjoy being in crunch and stressful situations.

Suryakumar Yadav is known for giving a lot of freedom to the players. How is your experience under his leadership?

Surya Bhai is a great captain. In all the games played by me for India, he has given me a lot of support. He always tells me to play in the same way as I am playing in the IPL. He takes pressure and gives me confidence. He reminds me that playing is a big achievement for India, and I must have done something special to reach here. For that, all this is about the mindset. He makes the players feel comfortable so that no one feels out of place or under pressure. This is what makes him so special – he is actually the captain of a player.

You are often tagged as a T20 specialist …

I know that fans like it when I hit sixes, and I am really grateful to it. but my Ranji Trophy The average is also very good – I exceed an average of 55. I really enjoy playing red-ball cricket. I have also played two ODIs for India and have done well in one of them. So, it is not that I am only a T20 player. I believe that if I get a chance, I can perform in every format. He always tells me, “Rinku, be ready and be ready for everything.” I am very happy to play tests for India and contribute there too. Raina Bhaiya has played most of his matches in the position where I bat, and have produced several matches winning knocks. I want to be the same type of player for India in all formats.

Turning back, do you think that five sixes in an over have changed your career completely?

Yes, people know me the reasons for that match, and the expectations have increased a lot since then. I have received a lot of love from everyone. After those five sixes, I got a completely different identity – not only for myself, but for the whole of India. For me, it was a very big moment. The team needed 28 runs, and then five sixes came into a row. It was like a dream – these things do not happen every day. This happened to me, and I am grateful to the Almighty for that. Do you consider yourself a strong contender for T20 World Cup Squad?

Yes, my dream is to be a part of the World Cup squad and hold that trophy. I keep praying to God for him. If I perform well in the upcoming series, things will become clear for the World Cup. This is my final objective – to do good for my country in the Asia Cup, and I believe that I will distribute.

When it comes to your batting, where ‘fear’ and ‘pressure’ fit?

The pressure is always part of the game, but the most important thing is confidence. If you believe in yourself, it does not matter who the bowler is. Hard work and confidence make things easier. If you play with fear, everything goes wrong. But if you believe, anything is possible. This is the mindset when I take out to bat every time.
